Breathing & Recovery
At the latest MUV-Festival, breathing expert Nazim Aziri from endurance – ausdauer AG demonstrated how conscious breathing can sustainably improve our health, energy levels and recovery. Read more about it here.
The Forgotten Key to True Health
Breathing – something we do thousands of times every day, mostly unconsciously. Yet it is one of the most powerful levers for health, energy and regeneration. Those who breathe correctly, live better.
Proper Breathing = Back to Nasal Breathing
While newborns naturally breathe through their nose, many of us gradually adopt mouth breathing over the years – often unconsciously, influenced by our parents and environment. The problem: mouth breathing puts the body under stress. It leads to rapid sugar consumption, providing short-term energy but placing long-term strain on the metabolism and the thyroid.
In the past, humans took 5–6 breaths per minute. Today, it’s 12–20 – a clear sign of how far we have drifted from natural, healthy breathing.
Nasal Breathing = Regeneration
Nasal breathing activates the diaphragm, promotes deep abdominal breathing and has a calming effect on the nervous system. This improves digestion, sleep and concentration – in short, it enhances overall quality of life. And importantly: 70% of body weight regulation happens through breathing.
CO₂ – The Underestimated Hero
Many believe we breathe in because we need oxygen. In reality, we breathe out because we can no longer hold carbon dioxide (CO₂).CO₂ is the key gas that allows oxygen to actually reach our cells. Shallow or overly frequent breathing disrupts this balance.
Learning to Breathe Like Brushing Your Teeth
Breathing is fundamental to life – it is the engine and the hygiene of the body. That’s why it’s worth understanding what healthy breathing looks like, for example with the 4–6–3 breathing technique:
- Inhale for 4 seconds
- Exhale for 6 seconds
- Hold the breath for 3 seconds
Conclusion
We can train all day, eat well and work hard – but if we breathe incorrectly, our system runs on reserve. Conscious breathing activates self-healing and brings body and mind back into balance.
